Ridiculous Belief

A friend of mine mentioned to me that his son was taking an interest in Christ and asked me what I thought his next steps should be. I told him that his son needs to be filled with the Holy Spirit and begin to listen to Christ from within his heart, in spirit. My friend rebutted, “shouldn’t he read the Bible, isn’t that a good place to start?”
Johan Cruyff was one of the greatest soccer coaches of all time. Imagine if Johan in his prime was 100% available to you, 100% of the time to teach you and guide you in your soccer play. But instead of taking Johan up on his offer, you decide to spend your time studying books written about Johan. In addition, you form study groups where people can talk about their thoughts on words from Johan.
Sounds ridiculous, right?
Anyone who believes in Johan and wants to be a good soccer player would be foolish not to spend their time with Johan, listening to him and doing as he instructs.
But when it comes to Christ, people give lip service to His name. If they truly believed in Him, that He is alive and always available to them within, He is wisdom, He is the way, the truth, and the life, they would spend their time listening to Him and doing as He instructs.
His way is of spirit as He is spirit. Do you not know that you are spirit, only bound by the flesh? Why do you act as if Christ is a story in a book? He is not only your God and the greatest teacher, He is your only hope for life. You will not become His unless you seek Him in spirit; listening to Him, leaving sin and the world’s ways behind, and living through Him by the intuition of the spirit.
It is one thing to be foolish with soccer, do not be foolish with life—your eternity depends on it.
